We interviewed Brianna Knight, an NCEA certified master esthetician, at our Wellness and Beauty Learning Center near Los Angeles, CA. Her expert insight on makeup tips and techniques will keep you on trend.
Q: What are your pro tips for flawless makeup application on a client?
A: First, you must cleanse, tone, and prep. Even if the client has no makeup on when they come to me, the first step must be a basic 3 step routine to prepare the skin for a smooth application.
Q: What are your must-have artist tools?
A: A high quality makeup palette for customizing colors and mixing pigments. It’s important that I am able to create one of a kind colors to achieve an overall unique work of art. I love the Cailyn Pro Palette. Professional brushes are also a must have. For me, I like working with a variety of brush styles, and, being an esthetician, I’m meticulous about sanitization. This is why I always choose brushes that are durable, and ones without wooden handles that can potentially house bacteria. I also love the O! Circle Brush by Cailyn because it gives the skin a flawless look that reminds me of an Instagram filter.
Q: What trends are you loving right now?
A: I love the combination of shimmer highlighters and long, full lashes paired with a full brow. It’s a trend that is going on a couple of years, but I don’t expect it to go anywhere soon. In my signature looks, I always accentuate the eyes by adding a little extra.
Q: What advice can you give to estheticians and makeup artists who are doing bridal or event makeup and want to make sure the application is long wearing?
A: Two words: Prime and set. Always use a silky textured primer and follow with a high quality foundation. Immediately after the look is complete, mist with a setting spray. I love the spray you gave me, the Farmaesthetics Grapefruit Water and Glycerin. It works amazingly, and actually brightens the skin over time.
