3 Top Spa Management Tips for Success

By Anita Lumpkin, Director of Education, Universal Companies

The spa industry is growing rapidly every year. From 2014 to 2015, the nationwide spa industry experienced a 5% increase in total revenue, from $15.5 billion to $16.3 billion.1

To keep propelling the industry forward, it is crucial that spa managers have some managerial techniques in common. This is important in order to educate your employees and keep customers coming back. Here are some top spa management tips that can bring success to any spa.

Always have a strategic plan

Strategic planning allows you to have a forecast of where you want your business to be within a certain amount of time. Instead of having to invest in crisis management when something goes wrong, you’ll have a strategic plan to fall back on. Ask yourself, “Where do I envision my spa in three to five years?” Once you have your answer, you can develop a realistic plan that will help you reach your goals.

Invest in training

While this may seem obvious, many business owners don't understand the true importance of taking time to train new employees. An extended training period will allow them to become comfortable with both the different types of esthetician equipment and massage spa equipment available, while interacting with customers and other employees. The result of training new employees should be improved confidence and increased knowledge of your business.

Get the right equipment

This means that it is critical for spa owners to invest in high-end, current professional spa equipment. While it can be confusing to choose between the different types of esthetician equipment available, it is important to determine what your customers will benefit the most from. Also consider your available space, budget, and spa services. Running a thriving spa can be challenging. But following these 3 tips can greatly improve your spa’s prospects for success.
