Sanitization can be as easy as turning on a light! The Cleanse® Downlight offers a passive, continuous method to sanitize air and surfaces in your spa or salon. Equipped with a Far-UVC source, the Downlight delivers 222 nanometer light to inactivate microbes; the reduction achieved is dependent on the type of contaminant, distance from the source, and duration of exposure. The integral general illumination features a boost at 435nm to help activate antimicrobial properties of TiO2 found in surface coating and cleaners.

To install, simply unscrew the existing lamp from your recessed can downlight, remove existing trim (if applicable), screw in the Cleanse® Downlight, push it in place and flip the switch to start sanitizing.

How Does UV Light Sanitization Work?

Light is comprised of different wavelengths, each with their own unique properties. The germicidal properties of ultraviolet (UV) light, part of the non-visible spectrum, can be harnessed to effectively sanitize the air, water and surfaces. At the appropriate wavelength and fluence (dose), exposure to ultraviolet light modifies or destroys the genetic material (DNA and RNA) in viruses, bacteria and mold, preventing replication.

Healthe air and surface sanitizing products employ various combinations of UV light and filtration to inactivate pathogens, including Far UV-C (200-230nm), UV-C (231-280nm) and UV-A (365nm).

  

What is the Effectiveness of UV and Is it Safe for Humans?

The effectiveness of UV on inactivating or destroying microbes depends on the microorganism’s structure, size and resilience, in addition to the UV exposure parameters including duration of exposure, wavelength and intensity.

Studies* have shown that continuous low doses of far- UVC radiation results in no harm to humans. The far-UVC light does not penetrate the top layer of the skin or the tear layer of the eye. The smaller cell structure of viruses and bacteria allow the far-UVC light to penetrate and cause damage.
