Mother’s Day and the Importance of Normalcy
April 15 • Business Success • By Peter Plishka
During stressful times it can be tempting to occupy yourself with endless distractions, killing time until the day is over, and then waking the next morning to another stretch of time that may be harder to fill. If you’re at home these days, putting activities on a to-do list, especially self-care, will help you develop a sense of normalcy, giving your day the structure you were used to having. Experts say a to-do list helps you control your time, as well as keep distractions at bay.
Here are some recommendations for your daily to-do list:
First thing in the morning, take a few minutes for a stretch – a giant yawn, or some yoga postures, or maybe just a few twists in the comfort of your bed. Breathe deeply during this brief session, and your body will be more eager to get going for the day ahead.
Even if you’re not going anywhere today, take a few extra minutes to touch up where you can. Pat on an eye crème to refresh after sleep, style your hair like you have an appointment, and find some special accessories like a necklace or a scarf to add some flair.
What to do?
Make a list of the things you need and want to accomplish in the day. Work projects, online food ordering, connect with family members living at a distance, writing a card for the next holiday, birthday or anniversary. Write it down – and make it a manageable list, so you’re not disappointed if you don’t get to everything – and check off the tasks as you finish them.
Be sure to include things that make you happy. This could be spending time on a creative project, taking the time to make a nice meal, or going for a walk with your dog. Your to-do list should always have some things that bring you joy.
Even if it’s just a short list of 3 things you are grateful for, write them down. Take a few minutes to consider what you appreciate, it may be a person, or something you saw in nature today, or a reflection on some positive idea you had or heard about.
The benefits of a warm bath are undeniable. The science says it increases your serotonin (feel good hormone) levels, blood and oxygen flow, and helps calm your nervous system, relieving stress and anxiety. That sounds perfect!
Down time and relaxation are not created equal. Real relaxation means spending some deliberate slowing down and recharging. Deep breathing, meditation, journaling the day’s thoughts, and a slow mindful cup of tea are some great ways to do just that. True relaxation improves mood and quality of sleep, lowers blood pressure and chronic pain. All good things.
Stay in Touch This Mother’s Day
It’s important to keep celebrating those joyful milestones and holidays we’ve always loved. At a time when fewer and fewer things in our day seem normal, connecting for special occasions holds more significance than ever. The spa has been a dependable destination for rest, rejuvenation, and care, and that does not have to end just because you are unable to book a service.
Home Spa Packages for Mom
To help you show Mom the appreciation and love this year, here are some ideas for at-home spa packages. Select some of your favorite spa products and package them up in. a pretty bag, box, or basket.
BATH TIME SPA AT HOME PACKAGE / BATH BLISS can include a combination of face, bath and body products. We suggest bath salts (arnica or lavender are especially popular), bath oil, bubble bath, a face mask or mud mask, sugar or salt scrub, and body oil or shea butter lotion to finish. Think about making it a whole experience with some chocolates, tea and a candle.
CHILL TIME PACKAGE, with a CBD focus can provide everything for an afternoon oasis of peace and quiet. Include an essential oil diffuser, with both relaxing and energizing blends of oils, a CBD tea or tincture, and a hand or foot crème. A beautiful water bottle may remind Mom to keep hydrated through the day.
BEAUTY TIME SPA-AT-HOME KIT lets mom spend time pampering and beautifying herself. Give her the ingredients of a make-over with a hydrating face mask, serum, moisturizer and some essential makeup products. Add a jade or rose quartz roller just to make the treatment extra special.
MORNING MEDITATION PACKAGE gives mom a restful space to gather her thoughts, meditate on her day, and just be. It can include a candle, flavorful tea and honey, a beautiful journal, and a warming neck or back pillow. Throw in a hand crème.
