7 Ways to Prepare Your Spa for the Holidays
September 7 • Business Success
The holidays are a time for celebration, but they can also be hectic. To ensure that you and your staff are ready to handle the holiday rush, here are seven tips for preparing your spa now:
1. Prepare and Motivate Your Team
The holidays are a stressful time for everyone, but especially for your employees. Make sure your team is prepared for the extra workload by giving them plenty of notice about any schedule changes or increased hours. Be sure to communicate clearly about what will be expected from them during this busy season so there isn't any confusion as to who is covering which shifts or how many hours each person needs to work. Your staff will be working hard this season, so make sure they're motivated and ready to go. Give them gift cards or other incentives, such as vacation days, as an extra perk.
2. Plan and Purchase Your Retail Early
By having your business fully stocked and ready in October, your holidays will be much less stressful and much more profitable. The earlier you plan and purchase your retail, the better. This will give you more time to work out any last-minute details and ensure you have everything on hand when the holidays begin. Since you’ll have extra foot traffic, this is a great time to try extensions of lines you currently carry or hot new retail categories like LED light therapy.
3. Plan Themes for Your Retail
Themed retail is great for spas because it allows you to mix different categories of products. For example, if you’re selling robes, you could also sell candles and bath salts to go along with them, creating a "Relaxing Bath" package. This helps to increase the amount of money you make per sale and gives customers more options when they come into your store. Here are a few other package ideas with content suggestions:
Spa Day at Home - face masks, jade roller, foot soaks, and an herbal wrap.
Wellness - VitaJuwel Gemstone Water Bottle and Bend Beauty Supplements
Just for Teens – LED Sonic Cleanser, Patchology Breakout Box, and Moor Spa Blemish Gel
4. Feature Your Beauty & Stress Relief Services
I'm sure you know that the holidays are a busy time of year for customers. Suddenly there's no time for anything but shopping and parties. For many people, this means stress relief and beauty services—and that's where spas can help! Be sure to promote these specific services during the holidays so customers know you offer them and can help.
5. Don’t Forget Your Gift Cards
The last thing you want to do is forget about gift cards during this crazy time of year! Don't let your profits slip through your fingers by forgetting to offer gift cards in time for the holidays. They're a great way to keep up with demand and they help maximize the revenue from existing clients while also enticing new ones.
For an even bigger boost in revenue, add on a spa item or treatment during the holidays. This way, your clients can get all of their holiday shopping done in one stop!
6. Create a Festive Look
Create an energetic atmosphere by adding holiday-themed decorations around the reception area–such as garland, wreaths, and other greenery—but avoid going overboard. You don't want to overwhelm your clients when they walk in the door. Add festive music in the background to help set a holiday mood.
7. Update Your Website and Social Media
Make sure that all of your information is up-to-date so that customers can find you quickly and easily. This includes hours of operation, pricing information, and even photos of the services offered. Be sure to post about your seasonal offerings!
