Pro Tips
- Heat herbal balls in a dedicated herbal ball steamer or hot towel cabi lined with a damp towel.
- Always test the temperature on your inner forearm before applying.
- After treatment, present the cooled herbal balls to clients in a muslin or organza bag as a spa gift. Recommend using them at home as an herbal tea bath, steeping in warm bathwater for 10–15 minutes.
Usage
Soak each herbal ball in warm water up to the handle for several minutes before heating.
- Steamer Method (Recommended): Place soaked compresses in a professional herbal ball steamer for 10–15 minutes.
- Hot Towel Warmer Method: Wrap each soaked herbal ball in a damp towel and place inside a towel cabi for about 20 minutes.
- Microwave Method (Quick Prep): Soak briefly, wrap in a damp towel, and heat for 2–3 minutes, testing before use.
This set includes two herbal balls, intended to be used in rotation for continuous heat. Keep one compress in the steamer while the other is in use. As the first cools, switch to the freshly heated one to maintain a consistent, soothing temperature throughout the treatment. For focused or shorter services, one compress may be sufficient.
Traditional Thai Techniques
In professional Thai bodywork, herbal balls are applied using gentle compressions, rolling, rocking, and circular pressing motions. The therapist alternates between manual massage and compress application, using the warmth to soften tissue and open energy pathways. Begin at the feet or back and move toward the heart to encourage circulation and balance. Replace cooled compresses with reheated ones as needed.
Caution: Compress may be hot when removed from steamer or warmer.

Historical & Interesting Facts
The Thai herbal compress, or Luk Pra Kob, has been practiced for over 400 years and originated with Buddhist monks at Bangkok’s Wat Po Temple. These aromatic poultices combine heat, touch, and plant medicine to balance the body’s energy pathways and encourage deep relaxation. Today, this ritual remains a signature of authentic Thai massage, celebrated for its restorative blend of warmth, aroma, and ancient wisdom.

This has been a client favorite ever since we added it to our menu of spa services. Guests absolutely love them! The herbs have a light refreshing smell. The consistency in the product is always the same with each order. I’m extremely happy with this product. They are always readily available on the website
Easy to use, wonderful smell. Clients love this treatment!
great product
How do you clean these!? No direction given! They stain so badly
These smell amazing! Are perfect for Thai Herbal massage
these herbal compresses are authentic and great! I am a Thai Massage Bodyworker, and these are by far the best herbal conpresses ive used. Faat delivery:)
These Thai balls are extremely well made and firmly packed . In our service we use 2 balls per client which allows us to always have a heated ball in the rice cooker/ steamer. These can be used again and given to client to use in a personal bath for a second use as an herbal infusion soak
These smell amazing can’t wait to use them!
I recently created a massage service using this, and I have to say I am so glad I did! It can achieve firmer pressure and work more deeply than I had realized, without any extra pressure on my hands! This one is different than the coconut ball, you will want to research specific techniques on using it to have it be effective and relaxing. The scent seems strong before steaming but then gets quite light and is not overwhelming at all. And the warmth held on, which my client liked. I love these and hope that this brand has other herbal options which Universal will stock!
These are the best herbal compresses we've found. They smell amazing and have the perfect size, texture, and consistency. They are wrapped tightly, so they have a firm consistency and do not fall apart or loosen.
I love these. Good quality, tightly packed and has a great aroma.
Are these reusable?
Hi LC,
Great question! We do not recommend reusing these. You should include the cost of the product in your service and allow the client to take them home for at home treatments.
