Enhance Pregnancy Massage with Aromatherapy
Although pregnancy is one of the happiest times in a woman’s life, it is also one of the most physically demanding. Many women experience edema (swelling) of the legs and feet, soreness in the back, heartburn, indigestion, and fatigue. In addition to these physical symptoms, many expectant mothers feel stress and anxiety. It can be frustrating to no longer be able to meet the day-to-day demands as easily as before.
This gives you an excellent opportunity to encourage your expecting clients to relax and de-stress with an aromatherapy prenatal massage using ESS® Aromatherapy essential oils that are considered safe to use during pregnancy.
Back & Leg Massage Blend
First, mix 2 tablespoons of carrier oil with 4-5 drops of the essential oil(s) of your choice listed below. Keep in mind that many women experience allergies during pregnancy that they may not have normally. Because of this, always use nut-free oils on a pregnant client.
ESS Grapeseed Carrier Oil is ideal for back and leg massage.
Essential oils that are great to use for this type of massage are:
You can either use these oils together or alone in a single note massage oil.
Belly Blend
This customizable blend provides much needed natural moisturizers through avocado, grapeseed, or coconut carrier oils that will keep stretched skin feeling at ease as your client’s baby grows.
Massage Oil Base:Essential Oils:Mix 2 tablespoons of the carrier oil of your choice with 3-4 drops of the essential oils. Use these by themselves or in combination to create a customized massage oil for your client.
Spa Pantry® Whipped Almond Butter is also an excellent base that works well to help retain skin elasticity. To make the blend, simply combine the Whipped Butter with 3-4 drops of any of the essential oils previously suggested.
Retail Tip:
The mom-to-be can continue this experience when you offer her a customized belly blend to use at home. Start by mixing approximately 3.3 oz. of ESS Grapeseed Carrier Oil with 10 drops of the essential oils listed in the Belly Blend recipe. Store the blend in a dark glass dropper bottle (we suggest the 4 oz. Cobalt Blue Glass Dropper Bottle) and recommend your client massage a few drops into her skin twice daily.
NOTE: Because essential oils are so powerful, always mix them with a carrier oil or lotion before applying to the skin. Clients should consult an aromatherapist or physician before using any essential oil if they are pregnant or have a medical condition. Certain oils are contraindicated for these conditions. Do not use essential oils in the first trimester of pregnancy.
